กกท. ยันรับรอง ‘โป๊กเกอร์’ เป็นกีฬา ชม ‘ปุณณัตถ์’ แชมป์โลกบุคคลตัวอย่าง
ดร.ก้องศักด ยอดมณี ผู้ว่าการการกีฬาแห่งประเทศไทย (กกท.) ยืนยันรับรอง ‘โป๊กเกอร์’ เป็นกีฬาแต่ห้ามยุ่งเกี่ยวกับพนัน ชื่นชม “โปรปุณณัตถ์” ปุณณัตถ์ ปุณศรี นักโป๊กเกอร์มือหนึ่งของโลก คนแรกคนไทยและของเอเชีย คือบุคคลตัวอย่าง
ดร.ก้องศักด ยอดมณี ผู้ว่าการการกีฬาแห่งประเทศไทย กล่าวถึงประเด็น กีฬาโป๊กเกอร์ ในประเทศไทย หลังจากก่อนหน้านี้ได้รับรองเป็นกีฬา ก่อนที่ กระทรวงมหาดไทยจะประกาศให้กลับไปอยู่ในกลุ่มพนันอีกครั้งว่า เราต้องแยกเรื่องของกีฬาออกจากพนัน ตอนนี้เราได้ทำความเข้าใจกับกระทรวงมหาดไทย ว่าเรื่องของพนันเราไม่สนับสนุนอยู่แล้ว ถ้าลักษณะในการจัดการแข่งขันเป็นเรื่องของกีฬาจริงๆไม่ได้มีเรื่องของการเดิมพัน ก็จะถือว่าอยู่ภายใต้การกำกับดูแลของการกีฬาแห่งประเทศไทย ซึ่งตอนนี้อยู่ระหว่างกำหนดเงือนไขต่างๆในการดำเนินการของสมาคม เบื้องต้นเลยก็คือห้ามไปจัดการแข่งขันที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการพนัน เราเขียนไว้ชัดเจน และจะมีการลงรายละเอียดมากกว่านั้น ระบุให้ชัดว่าอะไรทำได้อะไรทำไม่ได้ เพื่อไม่ให้มีการไปล่อแหลมเกี่ยวกับพนันได้
“ตอนนี้สมาคมกีฬาโป๊กเกอร์ ได้รับการรับรองเป็นกีฬาแล้ว แต่ยังไม่ได้รับการรับรองเป็น “แห่งประเทศไทย” ดังนั้นนักกีฬายังอยู่ภายใต้การดูแลของสมาคม กกท.ยังไม่ได้เข้าไปสนับสนุนเรื่องของงบประมาณใดๆทั้งสิ้น แต่สนับสนุนให้มีการรวมตัวกันจัดกิจกรรมที่จะสร้างนักกีฬาขึ้นมาเพิ่มเติม ซึ่งสมาคมจะต้องออกค่าใช้จ่ายเองทั้งหมด แต่เมื่อเขาผลักดันตัวเองจนสามารถเข้าเงือนไขจนเป็น “แห่งประเทศไทย” ถึงจะได้รับการพิจารณา ตอนนี้การจัดการแข่งขันแบบเดียวกับที่จัดการแข่งขันในต่างประเทศ มีเงินรางวัลสูงๆ ในประเทศไทยยังไม่สามารถทำได้ แต่สามารถจัดการแข่งขันชิงชนะเลิศแห่งประเทศไทย จัดการแข่งขันคัดเลือกตัวนักกีฬา แบบนี้ไม่มีปัญหา ยอมรับว่า แม้ว่าจะมีเงือนไขต่างๆออกมา แต่สุดท้ายต้องขึ้นอยู่กับรัฐบาล ซึ่งน่าจะมีความชัดเจนหลังจากการเลือกตั้ง”
“ปุณณัตถ์ พร้อมด้วย ธนา จุลพรรณศักดิ์ นายกสมาคมกีฬาโป๊กเกอร์ไทย และคณะผู้บริหารสมาคมฯ ได้เข้าพบผม เพื่อรายงานผลการแข่งขันและแลกเปลี่ยนประสบการณ์ โดยนักกีฬาเองยืนยันเจตนารมณ์ในการนำองค์ความรู้และประสบการณ์ระดับโลก มาผลักดันกีฬาโป๊กเกอร์ให้เป็นกีฬาสำหรับคนรุ่นใหม่ และสร้างนักกีฬาไทยสู่ระดับอาชีพและเวทีโลกในอนาคต ซึ่งถือเป็นเรื่องที่น่ายินดี เป็นนักกีฬาตัวอย่างที่ดี และผมได้ให้กำลังใจ”
“ตอนนี้ที่การกีฬาแห่งประเทศไทย ส่วนกลางให้การรับรอง มี 2 สมาคม และได้สั่งให้ระงับการจดทะเบียนไปแล้วเพื่อสร้างเงื่อนไขให้ชัดเจน ไม่ว่าเขาจะไปจดที่จังหวัดใดก็ตาม จะต้องอยู่ภายใต้เงือนไขเดียวกัน เนื่องจากเราไม่อยากให้ภาพของการพนันเข้ามายุ่งเกี่ยว เพราะเรากำลังทำงานเหมือนตอนทำเกี่ยวกับสนุกเกอร์ หรือม้าแข่ง ต้องมีความระมัดระวัง และเมื่อมีเงื่อนไขชัดเราก็จะสามารถเปิดให้แต่ละจังหวัดสามารถรวมตัวกันเป็นสมาคมได้”
SAT Confirms ‘Poker’ Recognized as Sport; Praises World Champion ‘Punnat’ as Role Model
Dr. Kongsak Yodmanee, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), has confirmed the official recognition of Poker as a sport, provided it remains strictly separated from gambling. He also praised Mr. Punnat Punsri, the world’s top-ranked poker player and the first Thai and Asian player to achieve such status, as a role model for the youth.
Dr. Kongsak Yodmanee addressed the status of poker in Thailand following its recognition as a sport, which occurred before the Ministry of Interior recently re-categorized it under gambling regulations. He stated:
“We must separate the concept of sport from gambling. We are currently coordinating with the Ministry of Interior to clarify that we do not support gambling in any form. If the competition is structured purely as a sport without betting, it falls under the supervision of the SAT. We are currently establishing specific conditions for the association’s operations. The primary rule is a strict ban on organizing any event related to gambling. We will provide further details to clearly define what is permitted to ensure there are no legal ambiguities.”
Support and Regulatory Status
The Governor explained that while the Poker Sport Association has been recognized, it has not yet achieved the status of a “National” association. Therefore, athletes remain under the care of the association itself.
“The SAT does not yet provide financial budget support, but we encourage the assembly of activities to develop new athletes. The association must bear all expenses. Once they meet the criteria to become a ‘National’ association, further support will be considered. Currently, hosting high-stakes tournaments with large prize pools similar to those abroad is not yet permitted in Thailand. However, organizing national championships or athlete selection trials is acceptable,” said Dr. Kongsak. He added that while conditions are being drafted, final clarity will likely depend on government policy following the election.
Meeting with the World Champion
Recently, Mr. Punnat Punsri, accompanied by Mr. Thana Julpansak, President of the Thai Poker Sport Association, and the association’s executive committee, met with the SAT Governor to report on recent competition results and exchange experiences.
“The athletes expressed their intent to use their world-class knowledge and experience to push poker as a sport for the new generation and to develop Thai athletes toward professional and international stages. This is a welcome development. Punnat is an excellent role model, and I have offered him my full encouragement,” Dr. Kongsak noted.
Strict Oversight Across Provinces
Currently, the SAT headquarters has recognized two associations but has temporarily suspended further registrations to finalize clear regulatory conditions.
“Regardless of which province an association is registered in, they must follow the same standards. We want to prevent any association with gambling, similar to how we manage Snooker or Horse Racing. We must be cautious. Once the conditions are crystal clear, we will allow provinces to form their own associations under these unified rules,” the Governor concluded.
